Parish History

1980A Mar Thoma prayer group was formed that consisted of prayers and social gatherings at members' homes.
1981There were about 13 families at this time who got together and formed the Mar Thoma Church of Oklahoma Congregation with monthly Qurbana Services and bi-weekly prayer meetings. The Late Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan approved this congregation and appointed Rev. Philip Varghese as the vicar.
1983Sunday School Program officially started with classes held twice a month on Saturday evenings. The Youth Fellowship also began at this time and began to have regular meetings.
1988There were about 26 families at this time and a nine member Church Building Committee was formed. A suitable piece of property at 2.38 acres was purchased for the church building.
1990The construction of the church building began and was completed later that year. Rt. Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Crysostum Suffragon Metropolitan conducted the dedication service of the church.
1993Under the guidance of Rev. Eapen Cherian for the next three years, the youth fellowship began to take on shape and were motivated for various community type service programs.
1997Under the guidance of Rev. Kuruvilla Philip, Yuvajana Sakhyam was organized for the first time in the church.
2001Under the leadership of Rev. Kuruvilla Philip and Rev. C. G. Thomas, the fellowship hall and the church parking lot were expanded. A parsonage was built for the resident achen.
2005Under the leadership of Rev. T. K. John, the church began its first mission projects to the Native Americans.
2006Church Silver Jubilee was celebrated and a souvenir was published. In association with the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the parish financially assisted 25 families towards the marriage expenses of their daughters.
2008At 85 families and with the leadership of Rev. Varghese K. Mathew, a new emphasis on community outreach has been placed on the church.
2015-16Under the leadership of the previous vicar Rev. Shibi Abraham and current vicar Rev. Thomas Kurian, the parish is actively participating in several outreach mission activities including the fellowship with Native American Chocktaw Presbytery-Cumberland Presbyterian Church (McGee Chapel, Broken Bow).
